BC Rugby Fan Zone launching for HSBC Canada Sevens Vancouver Tournament

Feb 11, 2016

Rugby Fans from across North America and around the world will be coming to Vancouver in March, and the party will be at the BC Rugby Fan Zone located at Library Square Public House.

BC Rugby’s Vancouver Rugby Festival (March 10th – 12th) and the HSBC Canada Sevens Vancouver Tournament (March 12th – 13th) are just over one month away, and Donnelly Group is pleased to partner with BC Rugby to create the official BC Rugby Fan Zone, which will be welcoming rugby enthusiasts throughout the events.

The 5000 square foot BC Rugby Fan Zone, situated at the corner of Georgia and Homer Streets, mere footsteps away from the rugby epicentre at BC Place and from Library Square Public House.

“As we prepare to host the best Sevens players in the world, it’s great to know that the sport and culture of Rugby will be celebrated both inside and outside of BC Place Stadium,” said Bill Cooper, CEO of Canada Sevens. “The Vancouver Rugby Festival will play an important role in setting the stage for what is bound to be one of the most exciting weekends of the year for Vancouverites.”

The Fan Zone will feature interactive rugby games, giant outdoor TVs showing all the action, along with DJs to keep the party rocking. In addition, demos and games will get fans in the spirit to enjoy the world-class rugby being played inside BC Place. With two huge tents set up so that the fun continues whatever the weather, it will be the best place all weekend to catch the games on TV and to celebrate before and after the matches.

The Fan Zone is being run in support of grassroots rugby in British Columbia with $1 from every beer sold being donated to BC Rugby youth programs. In addition, demos and games will get fans in the spirit to enjoy the world class rugby being played inside BC Place.

“The Vancouver Rugby Festival and the HSBC Canada Sevens Vancouver Tournament represent a huge moment for our sport in BC,” said BC Rugby CEO, Annabel Kehoe. “Donnelly Group has been a great partner for our sport and we’re thrilled to be working with them to spread the fun of rugby and raise money for youth rugby in BC.

Library Square Public House has been a long-time destination for rugby fans before, during and after matches.

“We’ve got rugby fans across the entire Donnelly Group, but Library Square is the go-to spot for Vancouver’s most passionate sports fans,” said Damon Holowchak, Donnelly Group Director of Marketing. “We’ve fostered a fantastic rugby culture here at Library Square. Many members of our team are active players with local Rugby Clubs and are extremely knowledgeable about the game.”

The atmosphere will continue to build in the weeks leading up to the HSBC Canada Sevens, with Library Square holding viewing parties during the Six Nations Rugby Tournament from Europe throughout the month of February.

Library Square Public House will also be hosting the Vancouver Rugby Festival Awards Party in the evening of Friday, March 11th.

Limited spaces are still available in both age-grade and open divisions of the Vancouver Rugby Festival. To register your team today, visit bcrugby.com/vanrugbyfest.
