Canadian Sport Institute Pacific Mourns the Loss of Coach Randy Bennett

Apr 29, 2015

VICTORIA, BC – Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) is deeply saddened by the loss of Randy Bennett, Head Coach of the High Performance Centre – Victoria and Director of Island Swimming. A member of the CSI Pacific family since 2008, Randy was one of the most well-respected and decorated coaches in British Columbia. His work with numerous elite swimmers resulted in many trips to the podium, including World Championship and Olympic medals. Randy’s reach went beyond the athletes he worked with, as many CSI Pacific staff looked to him as a mentor.

“Randy was close friend and respected colleague to our team. We were very fortunate to work with such an outstanding coach and person,” explained Wendy Pattenden, CEO, CSI Pacific. “His reputation for excellence will live on in the swimmers he worked with, and his legacy will continue through the winning programs he created here in BC. Our hearts go out to his family and the rest of the Canadian swimming community.”

Along with staff from our Performance Services team, CSI Pacific Talent Development Coach Ryan Mallette and Swimming Canada IST Director Dr. Allan Wrigley will continue to support the swimmers as they look towards upcoming competitions such as the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.

Swimming Canada has asked for media and members of the public to respect the privacy of Bennett’s family as well as that of the athletes. Those wishing to express their condolences can send messages to farewellrandy@swimming.ca.
