For Immediate Release

When the 2015 Canada Winter Games start in Prince George in 21 days, Team BC will be proudly wearing the provincial colours as the host team.

“It will be a proud moment when Team BC members enter the Opening Ceremony in their uniforms, which capture so beautifully the spirit of northern B.C. and its rich and diverse culture. Congratulations to artist Jennifer Annais Pighin on her tremendous designs,” said Coralee Oakes, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

The ceremonial uniforms for Team BC were unveiled today and include winter weather gear by Stormteck along with ceremonial shirts, toques, mittens, and scarves.

Two of the clothing items include designs by Lheidli T’enneh artist, Jennifer Annais Pighin.  The shirt Team BC will wear into the Opening Ceremony depicts an abstract landscape design that creates balance and flow while resembling the momentum of the various sports.  This will be paired with a scarf with a unique design of a sockeye salmon.  The salmon was chosen to represent the phenomenal journey to Prince George and the significant changes that happen throughout that journey.

“I love the colours of the uniforms!  It really makes me feel like the Games are coming and we are representing British Columbia.,” said Team BC synchronized swimmer Emma Choo (Victoria).  “I will be incredibly proud to wear the Team BC uniform at the Games.”

The collectable Team BC pin package was also released today which includes a three-part puzzle pin of a dug-out canoe also designed by Jennifer Annais Pighin as well as an alumni, coach, mission staff, and 2015 Games pin.

“We are grateful to Team Sales, the official clothing supplier for Team BC, who put together a clothing package truly representative of British Columbia and the pride we will all feel at our home Games,” said Rob Needham, Chef de Mission for Team BC.
