Recruitment process names new positions for Board of Directors, CEO
Vancouver, BC — Following a comprehensive and successful leadership recruitment initiative, viaSport – the strategic leader for amateur sport in British Columbia – announces additions to its leadership team, with the appointment of Caley Denton, Peter Lawless and Loreen Barnett to the viaSport Board of Directors and Cathy Priestner Allinger as Chief Executive Officer.
The expanded Board of Directors appointed Allinger into the CEO role, effective June 24, 2013, recognizing her unparalleled level of knowledge, expertise and vision for the sector. An influential advocate who has been involved with viaSport through the organization’s formative years as consultant, interim CEO, and most recently the Board Chair, Allinger is a proven sports leader on the provincial, national and international stage.
“With Cathy’s proven track record of leading change in all aspects of sports and sport management, we’re confident that she has the passion, skills and established relationships to unify sport in a way that results in an active, healthy British Columbia where sport inspires a field of possibilities for all,” says Lauren Woolstencroft, chair of the Leadership Nomination Task Team and viaSport board member. “The Board is thrilled that Cathy has accepted the opportunity and looks forward to working with her in a new capacity.”
Supporting Allinger in her new role, the viaSport Board of Directors have confirmed positions for Denton (Chair), Lawless and Barnett, who join founding board members Woolstencroft and Sheila Bouman. Each leader brings a proven history working to improve sport plus valuable knowledge and skills for advancing viaSport’s mandate and vision.
“The team at viaSport has been tasked with a significant undertaking for sport in our province and we are building a first-class Board and leadership team to do it,” says Allinger. “With our complimentary skills and perspectives, all leaders involved with viaSport will continue to take a bold approach in creating a more effective, unified sport sector.”
