BC athletes big part of Team Canada’s success at the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games

Vancouver, BC – Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) would like to congratulate the athletes, coaches and support staff from British Columbia, as well as the entire Canadian Pan American Games Team, for an outstanding performance at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.

British Columbia-linked athletes came home from the Games with 63 medals, winning 29 per cent of the Canadian team’s medal haul for a total of 29 gold, 21 silver and 13 bronze. 200 athletes who live or train in B.C. competed at the Games, accounting for 28 per cent of the Canadian Pan Am Games Team.

The eight CSI Pacific staff who travelled to the Games to support teams include:

  • Liz Johnson, Physiologist – Swimming
  • Graham Olson, Sport Technologist – Swimming
  • Tyler Goodale, Strength and Conditioning Coach – Rugby – Women’s 7s
  • Trent Stellingwerff, Physiologist – Athletics
  • Sam Ebata – Mission Staff
  • Nick Clarke, Strength and Conditioning Coach/Physiologist – Rowing
  • Bruce Pinel (contractor), Mental Performance Consultant – Field Hockey &  Rugby – Men’s 7s
  • Sharleen Hoar (contractor), Mental Performance Consultant – Triathlon

BC athletes will also represent Canada at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games from August 7 to 15.

  • 719 athletes made up the Canadian Pan Am Team. 200 athletes are affiliated with B.C.
  • Of the 200 B.C. linked athletes at the Games, 153 athletes were born in B.C. and 47 moved to the province to train and receive support from B.C.’s sport sector.
  • B.C. affiliated athletes won 63 medals at the Games: 29 gold, 21 silver and 13 bronze.
  • Canadian athletes won 217 medals at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games: 78 gold, 69 silver and 70 bronze.
