Odlum Brown renews support for Indigenous Athletes in BC
Jun 11, 2026
June 11, 2026, Vancouver – viaSport is pleased to announce that Odlum Brown will again support the Indigenous Youth Sport Fund this year, increasing their total support for indigenous athletes. Odlum Brown is partnering with viaSport for a second year to support Indigenous high-performance athletes to reach their full potential by reducing financial barriers.
The Indigenous Youth Sport Program assists amateur athletes of Indigenous ancestry in their pursuit of excellence in sport.
“The funding I received from the Indigenous Youth Sport Legacy Fund had a direct impact on my ability to participate at the World Championship in Italy this year,” said Delani Hulme-Lawrence, Victoria-based para-sailor. “This grant was utilized to cover transportation and travel costs for the Sailing World Championship. These expenses are some of the biggest barriers for me as a developing athlete, especially when competing internationally. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity.”
“We are proud to continue our support of the Indigenous Youth Sport Fund this year,” said Trevor Short, President and CEO of Odlum Brown. “Our partnership with viaSport allows us to make a tangible difference for Indigenous athletes competing on national or provincial teams each year by removing the financial barriers that stand between them and high-performance sport.”
The benefits of sport are undeniable: happier, healthier people, and better-connected communities. Inclusive sport environments break down barriers and provide opportunities to empower equity-deserving groups allowing everyone to participate and thrive. Supporting this program showcases Odlum Brown’s commitment to elevating sport culture and creating a welcoming and inclusive experience for everyone. Together, Odlum Brown and viaSport are leveraging the power of sport to foster a lasting impact for Indigenous athletes, their communities and amateur sport in BC.
The first application intake for 2026 of the Indigenous Youth Sport Fund is June 15, 2026.

Indigenous Youth Sport Fund

Grants are awarded to athletes competing in any sport, with priority given to athletes participating on provincial teams, national teams, and/or in any regional, provincial, or national tournaments and competitions featuring Indigenous participants. The program is funded by the Province of BC, supported by Odlum Brown, and administered by viaSport in partnership with the West Vancouver Community Foundation.
