BC Universal Code of Conduct
Jul 13, 2023
British Columbia’s sport sector and organizations are committed to creating sport environments that are free from all forms of harm including psychological, physical, sexual, and neglect.
The BC Universal Code of Conduct (BC UCC) was written in 2021. The purpose of the code is to set standards for the culture of sport in BC for provincial sport organizations. Also, it helps to ensure that standards for behaviour are the same across all sports.
The BC UCC is not intended to replace a sport organization’s current policies but to supplement the policies that relate to advancing a respectful sport culture to deliver high quality, inclusive, welcoming and safer sport experiences. All viaSport Designated Sport Organizations are required to adopt the BC UCC or the UCCMS (see below). Any violations of the Code are subject to review and disciplinary procedures according to the respective sport organization’s policy.
If your organization has not yet adopted a Code of Conduct, we recommend adopting the UCCMS.

The Universal Code of Conduct to prevent and address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) was developed with input from viaSport and other partners across Canada. It is part of the Canadian Safe Sport Program, run by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. It is the core document that sets harmonized rules to be adopted by, but not limited to, sport organizations that receive funding from the Government of Canada to advance a respectful sport culture that delivers quality, inclusive, accessible, welcoming and safe sport experiences. It is required to be adopted by all National Sport organizations. Some viaSport Designated Organizations have also switched to the UCCMS, to streamline their system throughout their sport.
