BC Ferries Sport Experience Program Continues to Support Amateur Athletes

The BC Ferries Sport Experience Program and the BC Ferries Disability Sport Experience Program continue to open doors for sport participation across BC. While travel is often a necessary part of competitive sport, the associated costs and accessibility challenges can create significant barriers for many athletes and teams.
The BC Ferries Sport Experience Program supports amateur sport organizations by covering ferry fares for athletes and teams travelling to competitions, while the BC Ferries Disability Sport Experience Program specifically assists athletes with disabilities, helping to reduce travel-related barriers and support more inclusive participation in sport.
From April to June 2026, 996 ferry vouchers were distributed across 23 sports, including 58 vouchers provided through the disability program. During this period, the programs supported 877 participants attending a variety of major events and development opportunities throughout the province including but not limited to:
- Canadian Gravel Championships (Cycling)
- Sail Canada Sail West Championships
- Volleyball BC Provincial Championships
- BC Summer Provincial Diving Championships
- Junior Wheelchair Rugby Camp
Additional support was provided for development opportunities, including a Sport Climbing BC Tier 2 selection camp, a Special Olympics Friendly Games Invitational Basketball Tournament, and a Junior Wheelchair Rugby participation camp.
