BC Ferries and viaSport Continue Partnership to Support Athletes with Travel Assistance
Mar 31, 2025

The BC Ferries Sport Experience Program and the BC Ferries Disability Sport Experience Program are designed to ease the financial burden of sport-related travel for eligible athletes, coaches, officials, and sport organizations.
Both programs have played a crucial role in supporting the amateur sport sector by providing essential travel grants to non-profit organizations and athletes. As of 2024-2025, this marks the 11th year of viaSport administering the BC Ferries Sport Experience program and the third year of the BC Ferries Disability Sport Experience program.
For the first time, the Disability Sport Experience Program expanded to include vehicle vouchers which helped 344 disability sport travellers reach their competitions and training opportunities.
During this funding cycle, more than 600 applications were received, directly supporting over 8,000 sport travellers from 70 communities across the province. By alleviating travel costs, the program allows athletes, coaches, and teams to focus on what truly matters—pursuing their passion for sport.
BC Ferries and viaSport understand that travel expenses are one of the major barriers for athletes striving to compete at higher levels. With many teams facing challenges securing funding for transportation, the BC Ferries Sport Experience Program and the BC Ferries Disability Sport Experience Program are vital in ensuring athletes have the opportunity to compete.
Looking ahead, both BC Ferries and viaSport are committed to continuing the program for a 12th year in 2025-26, providing essential support to athletes across the province. This partnership underscores the importance of breaking down barriers and providing accessible travel options, helping athletes across BC pursue their goals without unnecessary obstacles.
