Partners Council Launches Provincial Process Towards Hosting the 2017 NAHC

Sunday, March 22, 2015 – The Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council (Partners Council) is conducting a province-wide process to identify communities in BC who are interested in hosting the 2017 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC).
The Partners Council, as BC’s Provincial Aboriginal Sport Body, is permitted to approve and endorse one community from within BC to serve as a host candidate in the national bid and selection process. Accordingly, the Partners Council is launching a provincial process to choose a BC community that will compete amongst communities from other provinces/territories for the honour to host 2017 NAHC.
The BC community selected by the Partners Council will receive a funding commitment of $50,000 to offset the event’s operating costs, should they be successfully awarded the rights to host the 2017 NAHC through the national process.
The first deadline in the process is the submission of a letter of intent, which is required by Wednesday, April 29th, 2015. National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC) Held annually each spring, the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships serve as a premier event that showcases elite Bantam/Midget age Aboriginal hockey players from across Canada. A focal point for grassroots and regional Aboriginal hockey development, the NAHC aids in fostering cultural unity and pride and celebrates the athletic abilities of Aboriginal athletes from across the country.
Aboriginal Sport, Recreation & Physical Activity Partners Council (Partners Council) The overarching mission of the Partners Council is to improve the health outcomes of Aboriginal people across British Columbia by supporting and encouraging physically active communities and by expanding access to sport and recreation opportunities. The Partners Council has established six regions across BC: Northwest, Northeast, Interior, Fraser, Vancouver Coastal, and Vancouver Island. This structure brings together community sport, recreation, physical activity and health leaders from within each Region to establish committees, set priorities and create annual plans for advancing sport, recreation and physical activity in their area.
