Seven B.C. women recognized as influential sport leaders in Canada
CAAWS releases list of influential women in sport and physical activity for 2013
Vancouver, BC – viaSport British Columbia is thrilled to congratulate seven B.C. women named to the Most Influential Women in Sport and Physical Activity List, presented annually by the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS).
The following B.C. women have been recognized for their incredible leadership and influence in sport in British Columbia, in Canada and on the international playing field in 2013:
- Beverly Boys – Official; “A Level” International judge; coach from (Surrey, BC)
- Carol Huynh – FILA Panelist to IOC to Save Olympic Wrestling (Hazelton, BC)
- Dr. Jane Moran – Chair ISU Medical Commission; IOC Medical Commission (Victoria, BC)
- Christine Sinclair – Captain, Canadian Women’s Soccer Team (Burnaby, BC)
- Tricia Smith – VP, International Rowing Federation (Vancouver, BC)
- Michelle Stilwell – Paralympian; MLA; Advocate (Parksville, BC)
- Dr. Joan Wharf Higgins – Professor and Research Chair; Volunteer (Victoria, BC)
“We are very proud of the women recognized by CAAWS this year and support their efforts to increase participation and equality for girls and women in sport,” says Cathy Priestner Allinger, viaSport CEO. “In particular, we’re thrilled to have Dr. Joan Wharf Higgins and Carol Huynh sit on two of viaSport’s leadership groups; the Girls & Women Advisory Group and Sport Leadership Committee, respectively.
