viaSport British Columbia welcomes Jason Elligott as COO

viaSport British Columbia is a trusted partner of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture & Sport, supporting and providing leadership to strengthen amateur sport in BC. viaSport’s works to strengthen sport culture, improve data collection for impact reporting and explore new ways to foster participation and capacity-building in the amateur sport sector. To help enable this, viaSport has created a new position to join the team as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
After an amazing response to an extensive, nationwide recruiting process, viaSport is pleased to announce that Jason Elligott, a BC sport leader, begins in this new role January 16, 2024. The COO supports the advancement of viaSport’s strategic plan to elevate the capacity of sport organizations and leaders, expand our reach, and enhance our operational performance, while also stewarding the Province’s investment in sport.
Working closely with the CEO and other viaSport leaders, the COO provides operational capability and sector knowledge to help execute nearer-term strategic priorities. Jason is a well-rounded leader in the not-for-profit sector, specifically in sport governing organizations. For the last twenty years, Jason has been a leader with BC Soccer, the largest Provincial Sport Organization in BC. During the last nine years he held the senior staff position, and as the Executive Director he led the operations for soccer across BC in its widest sense.
“It is an exciting time for sport in our province, and I am excited to bring the experience I have gained in soccer and hopefully help the team at viaSport and the wider sport sector community in BC to further improve the overall sport sector,” says Jason. “I believe in collaborating for success and building the bridges required to include all stakeholders in planning to help execution.”
“Jason has extensive experience within amateur sport, starting in 2003 with BC Soccer and working his way up to Executive Director in 2015,” says Charlene Krepiakevich, CEO, viaSport British Columbia. “We believe Jason’s unique mix of leadership and operational savvy, plus his experience with system change, policy management, and best practices and procedures within the sport industry make him ideally suited to this newly created role at viaSport.”
As COO, Jason offers viaSport enterprise-wide support, ensuring key strategies related to safe sport, volunteerism and data systems are advanced with a focus on operational implementation, change management, and risk mitigation, while our CEO explores the advancement of near and longer-term strategies to elevate the sector, like safety in sport, volunteer and data strategies.
