Announcing our Surprise, Coach! Contest Winner!

Thank you to all the sport teams and clubs that took the time to appreciate your coach for Coaches Week. We were incredibly moved by the 21 videos representing 13 unique B.C. communities that were submitted to our Surprise, Coach! Contest. Seeing the different ways that your coach has positively impacted you is a vivid testament to the passionate work they’re doing to further sport and physical activity.

With the amount of effort put into each and every video, selecting a winner was no easy feat. After a considerable amount of time evaluating our submissions, we’d like to congratulate Kelowna Heat 16B on winning our contest! The viaSport selection panel was impressed by the raw creativity, intent and fun that was shown through your coach appreciation. Words cannot begin to explain how much we appreciate @tony_da_tigerr as our coach, so we made a video in honor of National Coach Week! Thanks to Tony, we managed to secure gold at the Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival two years in a row. Under his direction, nine team members were also chosen to be on Team Canada. Tony built a new team from the ground up, showed us our potential and with that, we were golden. This coming year we have earned a spot to represent Canada at the 11th International Dragon Boat Federation World Championships in Szeged, Hungary. Qualifying for the World Championships was our dream, but thanks to Tony, that dream is now a reality. If chosen, all the prize money will be allocated towards travel expenses for a team of 30. #surpriseBCcoach #ThanksCoach #CoachWeek @viasportbc

This is the competitive team from Quesnel Technics Gymnastics Club, if we win the contest the money will be used to purchase new equipment that our team feels we need. Ridge Canoe and Kayak Club entry for @viasportbc #SurpriseBCcoach Thanks to our Junior/Masters Coach Tessa for her dedication, patience, and her ability to motivate her athletes!! Tessa has been inspiring the paddlers at the club for more then a decade, both as an athlete and coach. Any money will go a long way in helping @ridgecanoekayak with new life jackets, paddles, and weight lifting equipment!

It’s #NationalCoachesWeek ! This is my team’s coach Ashlee Davison, we wanted to thank her for everything that she does for us by surprising her today before practice. We each wrote something we love about her, or a fun memory of her, on a poster that we gave her along with some of her favourite candies! Ash is the most dedicated and inspirational coach out there, and although we don’t win many games, she has NEVER given up on our team. We are the UBC TSC Women’s Tennis team and we appreciate our coach! Not only is Daniel knowledgable of our sport and it’s tricky tactics, but he is encouraging, positive, hard working and fun. Daniel dedicates so many hours to practice planning, execution, and competition preparation. We are SO LUCKY TO HAVE HIM!
