Celebrate coaches in B.C. during National Coaches Week
Sep 24, 2018
Vancouver, B.C. – viaSport joins the Province of British Columbia in proclaiming September 22 – 30, 2018 as British Columbia Coaches Week, celebrating the tremendous positive impact coaches have on athletes and communities across B.C.
“Sport would look completely different without passionate and dedicated coaches,” says Kate Kloos, viaSport Coach Development Manager. “After all, thousands of coaches in B.C. invest their own time and resources to develop athletes, both young and old.”
As the Provincial/Territorial Coaching Representative (PTCR) for the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), viaSport is responsible for the advancement of coaches through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
Administered by viaSport, the Province of British Columbia’s investment supports coaching development through subsidized courses, professional development opportunities and grants benefiting over 70 amateur sport organizations throughout the province.
“My coaches provided me with the skills to succeed in sports when I competed, and, what’s more, skills for life,” says Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and a former amateur wrestler. “The commitment and teamwork I learned from my coaches are values which have continued to guide me throughout my career. Join me in celebrating the thousands of coaches – volunteers and professionals – who are shaping young lives across B.C. this Coaches Week!”
To celebrate B.C. coaches, viaSport is giving away $1000 through a Coaches Week social media contest.
“Our Coaches Week Contest is a small but significant way for British Columbians to appreciate the many faces that strengthen positive sport experiences,” adds Kate. “Visit viasport.ca/coachesweek to learn how you can get involved.”
