Coaching Awards 2024

The annual Coaching Awards are back! We are recognizing outstanding coaches that #MakeSportBetter in BC.

These awards were founded by the Coaches Association of BC and are supported by the Bob Bearpark Foundation. Each coach awarded will receive a bursary of $500 CAD, generously donated by the foundation.

Anyone can be a nominator – if you’re a current or former athlete, parent, club or provincial organization representative, or a coach yourself. Nominate a coach you believe helps with the development and growth of other coaches, or is kickstarting performance pathways for athletes.

Please note this application requests the following information and documents — we strongly suggest these are collected prior to filling out the application form:  

• National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) number of nominee
• 2 letters of reference in support of the nominee

Nominations will be accepted until March 24, 2024 (extended).

Coaches can be nominated in the following categories:

Category 1: Community Coach Development

• A coach that has invested time into building quality grassroots and community coaches (e.g., an individual that is considered a coach of coaches)
• The nominee could be a coach developer or a club coach* who is working within a program or across a club initiative that supports quality sport delivery
• The coach should hold trained or certified status for the NCCP competition introduction or development stream
• The person should support quality sport** and build the capacity of coaches who teach foundational sport skills (e.g., fundamental movement skills, bumps and jumps, etc.)

 * club coach is defined as a grassroots coach that is growing their sport at the club or local level. They may not be solely coaching athletes but are stewarding and driving coach performance.

** Quality sport is defined as an environment that is developmentally appropriate, safe, inclusive, and well-run.

Category 2: Competition Coach

• Focused on coaches who are supporting the development of athletes into the performance stream where athletes are competing on a provincial team in inter-provincial competitions or are being selected to national teams
• Coach could also be a club/PSO lead coaching a group of performance athletes
• Coach should be trained or receive training in their sport’s competition development pathway.
• Target level

• • Provincial Coach or
  • U Sport Head Coaches for sport receiving Athlete Assistance Program Funding; or
  • Canada Games Head or Assistant Coach
