Vancouver, B.C. – Beyond registration fees and equipment costs, parents and participants can encounter additional expenses with travelling to games and tournaments.

The excitement of sporting events and travelling to competitions can often be overshadowed by the financial obligations that come with the logistics and cost of travelling. This expense can be a barrier for athletes to be able to reach their full potential.

Through the BC Ferries Sport Experience Program, BC Ferries and viaSport British Columbia provide travel support to eligible not-for-profit sport organizations and athletes through BC Ferries Travel Vouchers.

In addition, athletes, athlete companions, coaches, managers, club volunteers and staff affiliated with Disability Sport Organizations (DSOs) can apply for competition travel assistance and receive vehicle vouchers through the BC Ferries Disability Sport Experience Program.

As of December 2023, approximately $28,700 worth of Ferry Vouchers have been issued across both BC Ferries Sport Experience grant streams. Almost 1700 travel vouchers were issued to athletes and coaches travelling to competitions and events, including:

  • BC Swimming Championships
  • BC Rugby Provincial Championships
  • BC Judo Tournaments
  • Cycling Tournaments
  • BC Curling Championships
  • Regular League Play
