Feb 27, 2024

Check out the March edition of the viaSport View, our monthly video series where we share the latest sport sector scoop. Emily Vickery, Senior Coordinator on the viaSport Sport Development team, shares what’s happening in the sport community this month.

International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day. This day is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the countless achievements of women who have played a vital role in promoting gender equality and empowerment.

This year, the global theme is #InspireInclusion. The theme centres on inspiring others to understand and value women’s inclusion and create a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.

Leading up to March 8th, we will #InspireInclusion by raising awareness of the importance of gender equality on boards and amplifying the voices of incredible women in the sport community.

Coaching Awards

The annual Coaching Awards are back! We are recognizing two outstanding coaches that #MakeSportBetter in BC.

These awards were founded by the Coaches Association of BC and are supported by the Bob Bearpark Foundation. Each coach awarded will receive a bursary of $500 CAD, generously donated by the foundation.

Anyone can be a nominator – if you’re a current or former athlete, parent, club or provincial organization representative, or a coach yourself.   Nominate a coach you believe helps with the development and growth of other coaches, or is kickstarting performance pathways for athletes. Nominations will be accepted until March 17th, 2024.

BC Games Coach Mentorship program

Coach development and growth are important not only for the coaches themselves but for organizations, athletes, volunteers, parents, and many more involved in the amateur sport community.

We are partnering with the BC Games Society to offer the BC Games Coach Mentorship Program. The program is designed to support the development of coach mentors participating in the 2024 BC Summer Games.

If you are a provincial sport organization participating in the 2024 BC Summers Games, apply now to become a mentor to support the development of other coaches.
