Northern BC Coaching and Officiating Development Fund

The Northern BC Coaching and Officiating Development Fund is a localized initiative, supported in part by the Northern Sport Strategy, created to provide support for coaching and officiating development leading up to the 2015 Canada Winter Games and beyond. The Northern BC Coaching and Officiating Development Fund is funded by the Province of BC, administered through viaSport British Columbia with support from Engage Sport North.
Recipients of this grant can use the funding to reduce the cost of their training and/or certification courses, in turn helping to increase accessibility to coaching and officiating development. Only courses and events occurring between January 1, 2025, and March 31, 2024 are eligible. However, due to the timing of grant intakes, courses from April 1 to June 30 2025 may also be considered.
Who can apply?
Applications can only be submitted by:
Individuals who:
- Permanently reside in a northern community located within BC Games Zones 7 or 8 and are endorsed by their respective sport organization or association, to pursue training, mentoring or certification opportunities in British Columbia
Registered not-for-profit societies:
- Local Sport Organizations (LSOs) operating in a northern community within BC Games Zones 7 or 8 and that are affiliated and in good standing of a viaSport Designated Sport Organization
- A viaSport Designated Sport Organization (i.e., accredited, recognized, or affiliated) hosting a coaching or officiating course in a northern community located within BC Games Zones 7 or 8

Grant Statistics
The Northern BC Coaching & Officiating Grant features annual funding of $50,000 divided among three intakes with approximately 25 applications seeking funding per intake. The average request amount is $1,500, while the average amount awarded is $1,000. Approximately 15 applications per intake are typically awarded funding, leading to an expected success rate of around 60%.
