Sports team travel can be a major expense for sport organizations as they seek competitive opportunities for their athletes.

The BC Ferries Sport Experience Program and the BC Ferries Disability Sport Experience Program, are two unique grant programs which help ease the financial costs connected with sport travel around BC for eligible athletes, coaches and officials, and sport club and organization staff.

The BC Ferries Sport Experience Program alleviates travel costs for amateur sport organizations and their athlete. The BC Ferries Disability Sport Experience Program is developed to reduce travel barriers for those with a disability and participating in sport.

Between March and June of this year, 1750 ferry vouchers for an approximate value of $30,000 were issued. The vouchers assisted athletes, coaches, managers and officials travelling to and from the island for eligible sporting events. The main events for which travel vouchers were issued this Spring were:

  • Volleyball BC Provincials
  • Karate BC Provincial Championships
  • Racquetball BC Provincials
  • BC Minor Lacrosse Provincials
  • Wheelchair Basketball Canada – BC Finals
  • BC Blind Sports Day

“We are very grateful for the support of BC Ferries for the one-way tickets as it’s very expensive for the girls to play and this helped,” shares The Victoria Volleyball Red.
