National Coaches Week, which runs from September 16 – 22, 2024, is a week to celebrate the tremendous positive impact coaches have on athletes and communities across British Columbia. Coaches are community leaders, role models and mentors who ignite passion for sport and physical activity.

As the Provincial/Territorial Coaching Representative for BC (PTCR)— appointed by the Province of British Columbia and the Coaching Association of Canada —  viaSport is responsible for providing BC coaches with access to National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) training and professional development opportunities. viaSport is committed to developing coaches who foster quality sports experiences for all participants.

National Coaches Week: Free or Discounted NCCP Courses

During Coaches Week, the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) is offering the following free or discounted NCCP courses through The Locker:

  • September 16, 2024: NCCP Coach Initiation in Sport
  • September 17, 2024: NCCP Creating a Positive Environment
  • September 18, 2024: NCCP Sport Nutrition
  • September 19, 2024: NCCP Coaching Athletes with a Disability

Coaching Grants

The Northern BC Coaching and Officiating Development Fund provides funding to individuals or sport organizations to reduce the cost of enhanced training opportunities and/or certification courses. 

The Coaches BC Legacy Grant is a grant that helps offset costs of projects and/or programs that support and uplift coaches from equity seeking backgrounds. 

The LeadForward Grant: Advancing Balanced Representation in Sport aims to strengthen balanced leadership for female coaches, officials or organizational staff throughout B.C. by supporting their training, education, and policy development opportunities. 

The Bob Bearpark Bursary Award supports the Development and High Performance pathway, and is aimed at uplifting coaches who identify as; Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, BIPOC, female, person with a disability or a coach of athletes with a disability.
