Coaching Standards in BC
As the lead agency mandated to promote high-quality sport experiences that play sport better, viaSport is committed to implement coaching standards for the benefit of amateur sport, as well as to build trust and encourage new participants to join sports.
Ensuring High Quality Coaching Standards for BC
viaSport works with our Designated Sport Organizations, the Coaching Association of Canada and other national partners to ensure coaches receive high quality education, advance on their sport pathway and meet national and provincial standards.
What we do to uphold coaching standards:
-
Require Designated Organizations to maintain a defined coaching pathway.
- If a national organization has not established its own pathway, viaSport mandates the adoption and consistent implementation of NCCP Planning a Practice and Make Ethical Decisions as a minimum standard.
-
Deliver standardized training for NCCP Facilitators, Evaluators, and Master Coach Developers to ensure consistent, high‑quality certification for the next generation of coaches.
- Strengthen the visibility of coach education by requiring Designated Organizations to showcase NCCP content and course offerings prominently on their websites.
-
Collaborate with Canadian Sport Institute – Pacific to set trained and certified standards for targeted coach receiving high-performance benefits through Enhanced Excellence funding
- Validate coaches achieving High School credits as part of the Ministry of Education’s External Sport Credentials Program
