#SportForEVERYBody: celebrating athletes with disabilities in BC
May 01, 2024
Every British Columbian can thrive from sport participation when it is inclusive, safe, and accessible.
National AccessAbility Week is from May 26 – June 1, 2024. This week is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of Canadians with disabilities, as well as make commitments to creating more equitable opportunities for all.
Sport is for everyone. That’s why we’re focused on cultivating inclusive spaces so that every participant feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to pursue physical activity. Throughout National AccessAbility Week, join us on social media by using our hashtag #SportForEVERYBody.

How can I get involved in sport?
viaSport collaborates with many amateur sport organizations, including disability sport organizations. We established a framework that includes three levels of designation designed to celebrate organizations based on their achievement of established standards.
Eager to start your sport journey? Want to try something new? We created a list of viaSport Designated Sport Organizations below.
How can I help make sport more inclusive?
Educate yourself
Learn about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) concepts through books, articles, research papers, workshops, webinars, and talking to athletes with diverse backgrounds. Search for some resources on our website here.
Challenge your biases
Reflect on your assumptions. Everyone has biases, and challenging them creates a more inclusive environment.
Be an inclusive teammate and ally
Treat all teammates with respect, empathy and compassion. Embrace diversity, listen to your teammates’ perspectives, and speak up against discriminatory behaviour. Lead by example by having an inclusive attitude!
